Newbie with Swingarm question - Metchamex?

#1 PostAuthor: sled » Tue Jul 17, 2012 12:17 am

Gday

I have been long time looker on this forum You brits do the most awsome builds! I bough myself a kz900 from the states about 6 months ago been cleaning it up, sprad panels tank etc, slowly working through some dodgy maintenance. thats another story.

This build appeals to the style i am after, does any one know if this is a metmachex swingarm?? i have been looking on the net and can't find much info or pictures for z900. I like the small brace, and want to fit a 160 tyre on 4.00 - 4.5 rims any one know if this is possible? How to people stabilise the drum brake?

http://www.z1ownersclub.co.uk/forum/vie ... &start=105

Any help is appreciated cheers Jason

It could well be. I have a low brace Metmachex that looks like that for my Z650. The main difference being that my adjuster centre is black and not gold.I would add a photo, but neither the bike nor the arm are at home at the moment.

I dont think there are too many low brace arms about, almost all the one's I see are deep brace.
Why do I persist in debating with idiots ? I really should know better :)

No mine is a disc rear. The only difference in swingarm though is one has a torque arm fixing on the top (disc type) and one on the bottom. It's easy to swap em over if you can access a welder.

I am on stock size 120/90 x 18 rear at the moment but I do want to go to 17" front and rear.

I have just too many other jobs going at the moment to add another to the list. It may have to wait until winter to do that. I am undecided which way to go. the easy way would be to get some spoked hubs and build into 17" Supermoto type rims....but I prefer alloys and I need to check front clearances anyway to find out if I can run a 110/70 or a 120/60 or 70x 17 front with stock forks or if I need to change those as well.....hence the job being on hold probably until winter. :)

Caphead bolts are countersunk into the eccentrics.

They are all much of a muchness anyway. Metmachex, JMC. etc

Davida's tend to be a bit more rare and I haven't seen a braced aluminium coloured one, only black - but that's not to say they never existed.

thanks for replies

O have looked at the Mechamex site on and off for many years was looking at one for my YPVS 350 a while ago. There is little info on the site and the z1000 picture is heavy braced. i have emailed them waiting on reply. There is little info on the site such as dimensions? does it use needle bearings? can it fit a 160 tyre? do you use standard wheel spacers? If it is the one in the thread then that would answer a few of these Qs.

There is also http://www.win-pmc.com/draft/sa.html but think mechas a little nicer.
