what could be making my headlamp blow, its not the pilot light or the high beam just the main light part of the bulb,
and which wire is it , is it red/yellow or black/yellow
any suggestions to check.

On the Z1/Z900's Black/Yellow is the earth, Red/Black is high-beam & Red/Yellow is dip beam.
Originally there was a resistor, 0.5 ohm 20W, fitted in series with the dip beam on all European models.
Hope that's of help.

I think Red/Black is high, Red/Yellow is low and Black/Yellow is earth, if it's only the low beam check through the Red/Yellow starting with the connection to the bulb itself and work back it's probably shorting out somewhere where the live and earth are close, Headlamp/connector blocks/handlebar switch gear.
I lost both main beams myself in Germany which turned out to be a break in the wire just where it enters the fuse box, I don't think it'll be that on yours as I think the Z1 is a little different.

Check battery voltage at about 2.5k revs should be 14.6 volts dc,if not and is higher could be voltage regulator faullty
