Gearbox interchanges

Does anyone know if 1000J gears will fit on the earlier gearbox shafts? I know the gearbox can be changed as a unit, but what about the individual gears?
I have just done the GPZ uni cluster in to early cases.
Had to use a 'J' input shaft. Could have used an early input as the gears will swop but the fixed first gear is lower on the early shaft so there would be a larger gap between 1st and 2nd.
