Looking for a bit of direction on a problem. I have just replaced the camchain on my 1977 A1 But when turning the motor over to let the Tensioner take up the chain tension i find the chain tries to ride up over the inlet cam. its as if the Tensioner is not long enough to keep the chain tight. all parts are new ie roller ect only the Tensioner is original although when i bought the bike this was not fitted so wondering if it is correct one, anyone got any ideas. thanks roy

best remove the tensioner and measure how deep can you push the roller (ie push it with a pencil and mark), than compare if freed tensioner extends further than measured length, also you could take a photo of the tensioner

I had the same problem.
I solved this by removing the tensioner. Then using the Handel end of a small screw driver pushed the tensioner well onto the chain. Then put tensioner back, released it ,locked it of,sorted
You will fined this technique hard to fined in the workshop manual. But it worked for me
