Good morning all,

I'm hoping somebody has time to answer a numpty question about the cams on my Z1B. I took the cams out to replace the head gasket, but now I'm ready to put the cams back in I can't work out which way up the exhaust cam goes. The inlet cam has the 28th pin mark at the top, but I can't see any mark on the exhaust cam to show which is up?

If you mean which way round it sits in the head then there will be a tacho drive gear cast into one side of the ex cam which should mate with the drive gear in the head.
Apologies if I have the meaning of the question wrong.

Thanks for the advice, and thanks for replying. What I'm trying to get my head round, is that there are two marks on the camshaft sprocket at 180 degrees to each other, so you could conceivably put the camshaft in 180 degrees out. When I did the cams on my Z1000 A1 there was an arrow on the exhaust cam sprocket to show which timing mark to use, but I can't find any mark on the Z1B cam.

There are slots at the ends of the cams, these should be pointing in opposite directions. When setting up timing they usually both point outwards

Ahem, I mean thank you very much.

I was being sidetracked by the lines etched onto the plastic coating of the sprocket. After I lined up the cam with the slot pointing out I noticed the small arrow etched into the metal of the sprocket itself.
