Hi chaps, can anyone tell me what wattage size is the standard headlamp bulb for 1974 Z1A,just checking spare bulbs for Germany,Had a spare 35W/35W in the garage which i presumed was the same as i was running then found mine had a 25W/25W fitted!
Healamp which is a stanley unit has 35W/35W printed on it but manual states 50/35W or 45/40 for european model?????
Any info appreciated, what are other Z1A owners running?,thanks

The original owners manual shows 35/50W on the wiring diagram.

It should be 45/40w but anything near those figure should be fine.
50/40 is available here.

Hmmmm. never noticed that before. The 45/40 I quoted was from a Z1A UK parts book, but don't have a UK wiring diagram for Z1A :??

Mine as far as i know is a European model which would then make 45/40W Correct, why mine has 35W/35W printed on the headlamp then is a bit of a mystery, and i thought the lights were quite good with 25/25!!
Would I be chancing any electrical issues with increasing the wattage,ie with regards to generator or inline resistor?
Cheers for the help Steve and John. :D

I'm running a 50/40 on a UK stanley with no probs, but the bike does have an aftermarket Reg/rec unit. I'm no electrical expert but don't see there being any issues.
What is the stanley number on the glass of your light?

For headlamp uprating or any electrical issues remember that Virgins Are Rare.

Volts Amps Resistance that is.

A simple calculation says that a 45 watt draw will need 4 amps. 4 x 12 = 48.
Easily within the wire rating of 8 amp but it's a good idea to put an inline resistance check in the circuit, that is a multimeter to you and me, to see what is being drawn in the circuit. (Use the 10A setting).
Resistance is the killer in old Zed wiring in particular switch contacts.
