Ive got an electrical gremlin
which i think has found its way to the starter solenoid.Bike wont turn over on the button.only if i short across solenoid terminals.go through electrical circuit cheques and black wire on the solenoid seams to be going to ground.if i put a 12v feed to it ,it goes straight to 0v.does this mean the coil inside the solenoid is cu put

Is this related.when i connect red lead from dyno ignition it drops the coil feed down to 0v.
Bear in mined the bike was running but blowing main fuse.now fuse is ok.

is there a good bike electrician in the Northampton area or one who i can chat with
this is doing my head in after 2 solid days

the power sauce for the starter button should be yellow with red trace which is also the live feed to your ignition coils. it goes from the coils to your r/h switch + when you press the starter button it transfers power from the yellow with red trace to the black which goes directly to the solenoid sounds like you have a shorted solenoid ?

yes all thats as i thought.But black wire takes it down to 0v.
can i change the relay or do i have to do the hole unit.

replace the hole unit i think z power have them

I'm no expert but recently had problems with bike not turning over on the start button. I replaced the ignition, coils and the starter solenoid after screwing them up by short circuiting various parts trying to track down the problem. Turned out to be a bad connection in the run/stop switch. £200+ spent when a little clean up of the contacts in the switch would probably have solved the problem:roll:

Just wanted to add replacement solenoid from Z Power does not include the mounting bracket which is spot welded onto the original. A bit disappointing for £40.

make sure the kill switch is in the on/run position as this will cut your live feed to the ignition coils + the starter button. disconnect the black wire from the solenoid + check for 12 volts at the black wire that comes out of the main wiring loom when the starter button is pressed

just had a look at your rebuild posts + there is a photo of the r/h switch hanging from the handlebars. one of the yellow wires with a red trace has bare wire showing did you repair that wire before assembling the switch. that was probably the cause of it blowing fuses. also the engine kill switch does not look in a healthy condition

you may be right about the switch being a problem.have sorted it now and no more blown fuses.may be i damage solenoid trying to fined fault.
getting new solenoid so hopefully it will be sorted.

have traced 12v all is well until you plug in solenoid.So ordered a replacement.
I don't know how this may be possible as all was working fine before solenoid problem.But it seams to have FFFF my dyna ignition.have 12v to coils but as soon as i connect dyna red wire it drops 12v back to 0v.same symptoms a solenoid.

How you getting on mate, i still have the same problem which cleared after i fitted another solinoid but is now back to not working, and going to look at my switches tonight.
