Ok, I am wearing my flame retardant suit

I have now looked at a couple of Z900 and one thing that differs between the two that have been presented to me is that one has a single disc up front and the other has twin disks.

Is the change to two discs a factory change or an owner upgrade?

Also, and I may be about to be banned permanently form this forum for blasphamy but what are the major differences between a Z1 and a Z900 as 'Mad Frank' is advertising one bike but calling it the same thing.....

Sorry for the daft questions but I am new to classic bike buying...LOL

Was a factory option untill the A4 - standard from then on (UK only)

Two discs on an A4 is generally a sign of a Uk bike. The American bikes came with one for some reason Kawasaki seemed to think the Americans weren't concerned about stopping but the Brits got two disks a standard. A second disk could always be added. Z1s all had one disk with a second available as a factory option but it cost almost a quarter of the price of a new bike at the time so two disks on earlier bikes is a good thing but not always common.

KevF if you are looking for a bike they come up for sale within the club at regular intervals and most are well known within the club so you are more likley to get a good one.

Hi Kev, before buying anything, especially if you're spending a sizeable amount of money on a bike that's road ready I would advise you to spend some more time on the forum and trying to get to know some of the lads on here, maybe even see if any are within meeting distance.

There is a lot of great info to be had and some very knowledgable lads here and taking the extra time, especially if you're new to these bikes may save you a lot of money on buying something that looks right but is'nt.

Anyway, just my advice on it, best of luck with purchase whichever way you go.

Have to agree with Z.O.A. there, Kev. If you are totally new to zeds, there's no harm in getting to know a few local owners who I'm sure will be happy to help with advice.

If you know Frank, are you in the London area?

On genuine UK bikes the standard twin discs were thinner than the single disc fitted to the Yank versions of the Z900-A4.
If it's a Z900-A4 with thicker twin discs the chances are it's most likely a Yank import.

Appreciate the knowledge comments. Been looking around and reading a lot of the threads on here that have helped a lot.

To be honest, until I was offered one as a p/x i thought I was out of the market for a genuine original Zed. But now I know differently, I will do as advised and ensure I get one that checks out.

as far as Frank is concerned, no I am in Norwich. Just happened to see Frank's Ebay bikes and asked a few questions.

Sounds as if I have enough to buy a very good Z900 or possibly a fairly decent Z1.

I have been offered just under £9k for the Road King but need to keep some back. Depending on what I find depends on how much I keep back for DIY...LOL just don't tell the missus...

yes there are lots of well informed helpful gents on here. i know that because i have used there advice plenty of times
I came in as a complete novice knew knowt and built up my little knowledge as i went along. Some of these lads know em inside out up and down and back to front.

For a small investment you can buy a copy of Dave Marsden's book from Z-power
All the information you will require about different models is in there all be it not 100% correct
