I bought my Z1 900 in around 2003. I cannot remember if 4* petrol was still available then and I have no idea if the previous owner had the bike converted to run on unleaded fuel.

Is this necessary on the z1 900 bikes?

Isn't it just the valve seats that are normally changed and is there a way I can tell if they have been changed?

You will be pleased to know that all the zeds were designed to run on unleaded from the start , they were also designed to run on 2 star petol . So you will have no problems at all.
