no bright spark!

i have no spark on No2. i have changed the plug and the lead still no spark. presumably it can only be the coil. (No 3 fed from same coil has good spark)

if my diagnosis is correct. where is best place for new coil or coils and HT leads. or does anyone have a spare?

I am running dyno s ignition and the coils are green.
Advice please boys

Take plug cap off pot 3 and put onto pot 2 take plug cap off 3 and put onto 2
see if fault moves,if you ahve a multimeter compare omms reading between 2 and 3 plug caps with the reading between 1 and 4, to prove it is the coil you could swap coils over,repost on here with your results Matey,,,Cheers Paul J

i have 28 K ohm across caps 1 & 4
and 8 M ohm across caps 2 & 3 (seems high to me !)

Does this system run a wasted spark? i.e. do all coils spark at once and only one does any work at any one time. it may seem obvious but i dont do electrics lol i dont want to cause any damage etc.

tomorrow i will mess about changing leads and see if fault moves
can i fit old OEM type coils to dyno s ignition system

Hi Andy ,you do have a high resistance across the secondary of suspect coil,yes it is a wasted spark system, you will not do any damage by swapping the leads as i suggest,if the coils are green i reckon they are probably the Dyna coils they should be 3 ohm primary resistance(low tension small connections) with a dyna s ignition,i have seen dyna coils split and go to earth via the mounting pins as they are so close to the terminal,check this by turning bike over in the dark may see tracking if you are lucky but it sounds very like a duff coil to me.. oh and yes you can fit oem coils with dyna s.Cheers Paul J

there should be no more than 5 k ohms on the plug cap have you removed the plug cap from the HT lead to do the test

looking at your readings no 1+ 4 should be ok if you have removed the plug caps? + 2+3 are low so i would say you have a f****d coil

Have fitted one or two Dyna systems didnt come with standard suppressed plugs caps they had the Dyna leads direct to the plugs!!!seem to recollect you need the special Dyna s leads for Dyna coils... just a thought.!.
But i have used standard coils with suppressor caps with standard HT leads with a Dynas ignition...

Had another traumatic day messing

coils 1 to 4 (no leads attached 16K ohm) this appears to be working fine
coils 2 to 3 (no leads attached 50K ohm)

all HT leads tip to tip 5K to 6K

OEM coil measured with leads plug cap to plug cap 23K ohm

still only spark from dyna coil but it is a good spark. can get a spark from 2 or 3 sometimes but not both together???

fitted OEM coil only one spark and much weaker ( could be duff i suppose)

Dont think its wiring to coil as i get one good spark from dyna coil. surely i would get NO spark as they fire together.
also i fed coil 1 & 4 from others wiring and got a spark but forgot to do both together DOH!
Do you think its definatley the coil?

just swap your dyna coils over if it sparks on 2-3 which it almost certainly will problem solved

I had this problem witha set of grey dynas, turned out to be corrosion in the coil plug. Looked like white oxidisation, cleaned with wet and dry, and the problem was solved
