How do I go about doing this? I don't have a manual for the bike so I don't know the proper procedure.

Do I remove the big spring that's behind the cover and then the plastic bushing and axle?

If anyone knows the right way to do it or has pictures of the procedure, please share.

if you mean the whole kickstarter mechanism not just the kickstart arm then it an engine out and cases split job. You can leave the top end in place.

if you don't want it to look like it has a kickstart shaft you could get a Z1R rubber cap for the spline.

not sure I've understood the question so if not please can you clarify
:)

to remove the kick start shaft you will need to split the crank cases

Thanks guys. Guess I'll just put a cover over the splines.

Z1R top hat cover will smarten it up or as said before split the cases.

I seem to remember in an article in the 80s someone used a lid from a bottle of Brut 33 to cover the splines - a nice chromed "period mod" if you will?

Not that i've got any left over from then I hasten to add

Victor.
17mm Chrome wheel nut covers are a perfect 'knock-on' fit over the shaft end.
I have one fitted on the Saxon.
I've lots spare, if you want one PM me your address and I'll post one out.
