Undoing Z1 Front Axle

Before I take a hacksaw to the flipping thing and post in the axle wanted section.....
Any suggestions on getting a Z1 front axle undone?
It's been soaking in penetrating oil for two weeks... no joy.
I've tried heating the speedo side till it's smoking.... no joy either.
I've tried pounding on the end of the spanner.. no joy and now I've just shattered a vice trying yet more leverage.
It's got to come out as I've a noisy bearing in the hub (and probably very cooked seals now!).
Any suggestions?

heat the axle nut on the speedo side until it goes cherry red that should free it. best to do it with welding torch or map gas

OK - guess I've nothing to lose; and that's not as energetic as cutting through it
if you hear reports of a garage fire in East Northamptonshire... it's me!!

When I have stubborn ones I fit the drive side in a vice holding on the flats and take 18" adjustable to the other side and never fails to come undone.

Beautifully illustrated Ruffle, you even got the cherry red part right.
I've never had to do that, however, it looks as so it works.

Yeh.. I think it's going to be prudent to change the O-ring
As for how it's so tight....dunno; could be that it was done up 40 years ago and never been apart since. I've only changed the front tyre once since I've have the bike and I didn't manage to get the axle out then using moderate force so left it in and worked round it.
This time it
had to come out though.
