hi all just removed my engine from z1100r as it will not go into any gear other than 1st i know they have a nuetrel finder fitted so you cant select second unless gearbox is turning but this wont select even when turning
took out the selector drum and forks and the left one looks out of line by a few mm any idea why this would be so if i take that selctor out then i can move the gears by hand no probs its a thow the selctor is bent but it looks fine
any ideas whouuld be very welcome

Check the gear 'dogs' to see if any are worn/burred/rounded off. :?
2nd's a favourite, check inner lugs for wear. If they are trying to slip out when giving it the berries, the selector fork takes all the strain.

Hello Ninjabob, are the faces of the selector fork fingers blued up? if so the selector fork is bent and needs replaceing, if the selector fork has a good finish where it engages the gear then the problem is elsewhere. The gears have to spin at quite a rate (fast enough for centrefugal force to flick out the ball bearings) to enable second gear to be engaged, Steve.

hi guys thanks for replies iv checked the selector forks they is a bit of wear right on the ends but no worse than i seen of others but none are blue
i know what you saying about the forces that throws the ballbearings out to engage second gear but my other zeds used to engage second if you span the rear wheel this one i cant dont really want to put the motor back in only to find the bloody thing wont select again and have to take it out again
im thinking of looking for another box to try in it just incase there is wear elsewhere in the gearbox
or ship the motor down to you steve to check it out you not that far away really
many thanks guys Bob
