Drive chain soft link

I fitted my new renthal chain and sprox on the ZRX today. The chain came with a 'soft' link but unlike any others I've seen. The pins appear to be solid and my chain riveting device doesn't seem to work on it. Normally these soft links have hollow pins with a softer end which is flared over to retain the link but this is different.
Any ideas? Is there some other means of securing the link? Any thought appreciated.

Just need to resort to old skool method of 4lb lump hammer held behind the soft link, while you peen over the rivet head- better if yiou have someone hold the lump hammer for you though.

Thanks John, I just had a visit from my daughter's power ranger friends on their Yamaha R6's (matching leathers) and one of them said the same. Seems very old fashioned, but I like it!

Simon,
I have a proper 'mans' chain riveting device that'll sort that out for you. It will press a little square on to the end of your solid pins.

That sounds like the laddie Steve! I'll give you a bell in the next couple of days and come over and borrie it if that's ok. BTW I found your compression tester today, forgot it was even here

Forgot I'd even lent it to you!

........ Must be an 'age' thing.
Chain riveter will be no problem, I might just have to start writing things down........ Mind you, I'll probably forget where I've written it.

Get it whacked between two lump hammers u gurl

Actually Simon I G clamped a lump of 50mm plate to mine and used an 8 oz ballpein hammer you don't get square bits on the pins but if your accurate you can get the same look as the factory tool

Only problem with the hammer method is you have to be careful you're not too 'enthusiastic' or you'll end up with a stiff link..... don't ask me how I know!!
