Whats this for?

#1 PostAuthor: bigalhudson » Sat Mar 24, 2012 12:09 pm

On my Z1000 A1/2

There's a flange or lug? coming off the back of the forks at the bottom, level with the drain screw. Its got a single threaded hole through it. Got one on both legs.Whats it for?

Cheers
Al.

Thought it might be a stay. Bikes an American import. Anybody know what models had this fitted?

Reason I posted this was I was trying to check the oil level and spring lengths in the forks.
The spring length when removed was 535mm where the service limit according to Haynes is 455mm. Anybody know what new spring lengths are or what model has springs closer to 535mm.
Oil level from top of stanchion is 450mm and Haynes recommends 426mm.
I,me just trying to pin down what forks are on the bike before I service them.
Any ideas appreciated.
Al.

Standard free length of 1000A2/Z1R is 521mm

Fair enough re the lug. I guess it's for a fender stay as previously said. (still like to know which models this was fitted to if anyone knows)

Re the spring length: aftermarket springs maybe? Seems like a large difference over the quoted lengths.

I was thinking that. Wonder if the forks have been swapped for 650's in the distant past? Or maybe just shared common parts?
