new Std. size Piston rings - Recommendations

#1 PostAuthor: Z.O.A » Thu Mar 22, 2012 8:42 pm

Just doing a freshen up of the the cylinder head on my A4 and while I have the head off I am going to give the bores a light hone and replace the piston rings, motor was still making good compression (I believe this will be first overhaul as the engine had only 25k on it when I imported it) but they're getting done anyway.

From experience, does anyone have any recommendations on what type or brand to get, I will be buying from the states as Prices in the UK are ridiculous, I found two types on Z1 Enterprises site.

Any info appreciated, Cheers, Gavin.

I'd go for the first set but it says they are out of stock.
Second set looks cheap and the oil ring expander looks crude with very few concertinas.
If i had to use the second set i would probably use the expanders from the old rings,

If engine is making good compression would advise against fitting non Kwak rings just for the sake of it,25k is not high miles on these motors, just my ten pennorth..Paul J
