I am having to bore my Z1000J to the first oversize. Our ocal New Zealand Kawa dealers are unable to source 0.5MM (first oversize) pistons or rings locally or from Japan. I have managed to track some down over your way but they are soooh expensive, running out about 80 pds for a piston plus ring set.
I have noticed Wiseco offer a big bore kit for about two thirds the price and "for free" I get all the extras that I need such as circlips gaskets and wrist pins but my concern is how much meat I have to remove to fit them. The first OEM over size has a piston diameter of about 70MM but the smallest Wiseco is 72MM. Boring to this size leaves only about 1.75MM wall thickness in the liner which seems to be very thin.
Has anyone had any adverse experiences fitting these kits and would they recommended them as against paying the premium for OEM hardware and only boring out by 0.5MM?
I have been told that the minimum wall thickness has to be 2MM but this may be an urban myth?
