#1 PostAuthor: gordon62 » Mon Mar 12, 2012 1:35 pm

Hi ALL,
Seen a bike for sale, no logbook, not spoken yet, but think only frame and engine numbers are known, and no reg, can reg be retrived from DVLA?

CHEERS,
Andy

Hi,
I"m going to have a look at the bike tomorrow, a SUZUKI GT250
anyhow the guy bought it 3-4 years ago from netley marsh auto-jumble,
near southampton, 1 of 3 that was there, funny thing is, I seem to recall seeing them, and I think they may of come from germany, the guy has spent lots of money on nos for it, so might be worth it for the bits alone.

I sell cars;

So.....if you HPI the chassis number you will find out the reg number (providing that it was actually registered on importing)

You can also get a log book as my Z650 didn't have one (but does now). The DVA/DVLA will write to the previous owner to verify that its not stolen or something, in my case the previous owner was deceased.

if you get really stuck I have a spare UK GT250 frame with logbook.
1976 vintage.

be quick though if you want it as I've just sold my GT250 and he is picking that up next weekend (24th) . He may well also want all the bitz.........

Hi. could you give us a link, as every Check I have looked at only seems to let you put in the reg number, which I don't have.

Cheers

Yeah, wot Gus says - Personally I'd only buy a bike/frame if it came with a number plate so it can be checked on the DVLA site easily :??
And on the 7th day... Zeds were created!

I think you have to a motor trader in order to use the vin hpi.

Hi,
Seen the bike, its ok, but I"m going to give it a miss, too much more needs doing to it,a so called 90% finish, but 90% still needs doing.... and I want to finish the GS...before I start any new projects, but I carry on looking anyway

^^^^^ Yes, that. You can pay to get private checks done but i don't know if they can do it on chassis number.

only the police can trace a reg off a vin or chassis number(which they wont do for general public ..they only do it when tracing stolen cars) .. went through this when i bought a gpz with no plate .. paid vjmc £60 for a dating cert sent it off to dvla +£25 and got an age related plate then found out engine on bike was fooked so i scrapped it
