My new Z900 is a Q plate. V5 states date of registration 10th May 94 then in brackets (manf. date not known) The frame has the vin plate and shows from Australia. Can I get it an age related plate.

Contact Dave Marsden at Z-Power. I Bought a Z2 with a Q plate and the DVLA accepted a letter from him and gave me an age related plate. I am not sure about this but i think Jerry Humpage can help also.

You will need a dating letter/certificate from a recognised club official to then go forward to getting a age related.

I assumed once a vehicle had a Q plate, you were stuck with it. However, i know someone with a Spondon Jota, that got a Q plate removed and an age related one instead.
Like the posts above, Ian, i suggest you speak to dave or Jerry.

Think you should be ok Ian, as long as you have a frame number the club can give you a pretty accurate date of build for the bike.

I was wondering the same thing, my Harris is on a Q Plate and have been thinking about changing it for a while, might have a problem dating it, so thought I might go for a cheap private plate, but not sure I can even do this.
Any ideas?

Does you Harris have a frame number ??
If so I wonder if Harris kept a record of build dates for frames. Might be worth contacting them direct.

I think it depends if you have any supporting documentation or not. I bought a frame in the USA and had the USA registration doc etc.
I did then build it into a bike (already had the engine etc) and had no problems getting it registered.
not sure if no docs or only the frame...............

Excellent news
I've found if you give the DVLA people enough paperwork they're pretty reasonable.
