Z1000 CARBS.

MY 78 Z1000 HAS STANDARD CARBS WITH K+N'S IT WILL NOT STOP LEAKING FUEL IVE TAKEN IT TO MY LOCAL BIKE SHOP WHO IS USUALLY QUITE GOOD, BUT HE DIDNT LIKE WORKING ON SOMETHING SO OLD (BSTD) SO ANYONE KNOW A SHOP OR PERSON I CAN SEND THEM TO?

Rick, approach the mechanic with a solution.........
Probably one of four things ... first need to know if it's one particular carb.
1. float not controlling fuel level (level too high).
2. needle and seat not sealing (replace).
3. tee pieces leaking. Replace with o-ring type.
4. overflow tube in float chamber has a fine split allowing fuel to slowly leak out overflow spout.

If it's an A2 doesn't it have a vacuum tap that could also be the problem. Replaced seals in the tap and a set of Keyster kits in the carbs - which will replace the float valves along with all the other bits that wear out - should sort it. If they still leak after all that it could be one of the other things Garn says... If a 78 bike hasn't had the tap and carbs rebuilt before chances are it needs it.
