hi all, i was mooching round the bike looking for things to do on it tomorrow.
while i was mid mooch, i started wonderin what the 6mm bolt hole is for, that is on the bracing plate, that is welded to the frame top tubes just above the airbox?
the same plate also has an oval hole in it, i had a look through my assembly and prep manual but didnt find anything, is it a throw back from an erlier model ???
thanks for any info, bye for now, bored of washington

The LTD bikes fix the tank via a bolt. It may be for that?

On the Z1/A/B it's for a clip (same as spark plug wire clip) that holds wiring harness up. On Z900A4 and later it's also for the earthing point for the rectifier.

I think the oval hole was for the two breather pipes from the carbs to pass through after which they clipped onto the top of the airbox.

Well RGH & CAT3, you would both get the prize....
RTH is correct, the 6mm taped hole is to hold a cable clip and CAT3 is correct the oval hole is to carry the two breather tubes from the carbs to the air box inlet.

Just a point of interest, on my Z900-A4 the 6mm hole has a threaded nut welded to the top of it, but it was never used for anything. I always wondered what it was for.

It is not a 6mm "taped hole" it is a 6mm welded nut on all models.
