Can a 1000ST be fitted with a chain drive engine?

Not that I'm going to do this...but it was raised in conversation with a mate.
I'm guessing that the engine isn't a probalem. It would be the swinging arm pivot is the issue.
Anyone tried?

The ST is massively wide at the swinging arm pivot point, around 300mm from memory, where as a standard Z1000A1/2 is around 234mm.

Anything is possible.
Need to change the swinger (ST one incorperates the drive shaft).
More than likely a bit of an adaptor or the like needs machining for the swingarm pivot area as you suggest.
And there you go.

I am toying with the idea of doing this next year.
I was planning to exchange the gearbox internals and the two outer sprocket covers on the existing thou engine
The advantage would be that any arm would fit the back and spacing the wheel to sit centrally should be easy.
The other advantage is I already have an ST
If I go ahead I will let you all know so you can slate me

Yes
The crankcases are the same as the z1r (D3) and z1000 (G1) classic,
so many of the gearclusters are a straight swap
You also need to change the inner sprocket cover and the outer cover.
I also believe there are a couple of other minor mods required for the gearlever return spring.
I suppose it could be a cheap way to fix an engine as the ST parts are cheaper in general.
