head bearings
Hi all, was wondering what advantages taper roller bearings have over stock ball-bearings, when fitted to zeds steering heads?? And how easy to fit them?

Hi, the advantage is the working surface of a roller is much larger than of a ball so the taper bearing should last much longer, I did mine last year and the job was easy, plenty of sets on the market but not many that have dust seals included, I got AllBalls brand wit the seals, I've heard tapers might be difficult to remove but considering the design there should be no need

Doddle to remove old races i use a rounded, flattened steel bar to drift out old races, the ideal way to fit new ones is a set of plastic bearing drifts but a piece of hardwood works ok,i reckon its a very worthwhile mod and have done it on both of my zeds the standard set up is ok for pushbikes

You can't polish a turd, but you can roll it in glitter

If the outer race is upside down there is nothing to put the bar onto.
As the inner race is in situe i am going to use a socket which is slightly narrower than the stock tube
And a Lump hammer

Cheers
