side panel oil dipstick hole

On the pre-painted reproduction LH side panel, has anyone had to drill the clearance hole for the early model oil tank dip stick? This looks like a classic case of the paint chipping away when carrying out this task.

Ir35, you need about a 7/8" or 23 mm hole cutter and drill about a 1/4 " pilot hole first and its easy. However, if it's prepainted, as you say, I think it will require some careful drilling from the painted side and touch-up after the hole is cut.

I can't believe that a company would not cut the hole before painting, unless, of course, it is painted with the candy blue or candy red of the later Z1B, which has no need for the chain-oiler. I take it it was the standard colours of a Z1/ Z1A root beer brown or candy green.

Thanks for posting the reply. You said it just how I would do it. I was just worried to know how the paint reacts.
PMC / Doremi do a really nice job on the bodywork paint sets, but I suppose because lots of people want to put the brown/orange set on Z1A, Z1B etc (or not bother with the oil tank at all) they just mark the position for the hole on the inside face of the cover.
These body sets are not cheap so any large paint chipping would be a disaster.

try covering the area you are drilling with masking tape(on both sides of panel)this will save the paint flaking off when drilled.If any paint flakes at all,it will be very small and will touch up without being noticed,hope this helps
