Putting finishing touches to my ELR project and trying to fit front brakes. I have a GPz Untirak front wheel with R1 floating discs and am trying to use AP twin piston calipers that are age authentic for the bike. The issue i have is the R1 discs are not dished so the calipers just snag on the wheel spokes.
Is it possible, and importantly safe, to space out the discs by approx 5 mm to give me the clearance I need?

I am looking at the options regarding this for my build. It`s easier for me because a more modern bike has options of dish amount from others in the range.
The problem is that the centre hole should be a good fit on the wheel and if you do space it by that much there will be no support. It may be there are discs with a small offset that have the same bolt pattern and centre dimensions.
You could contact EBC and ask if they make or will make a suitable disc.
Or even easier............................fit caliper brackets.

Always bear in mind - it mainly the FRICTION between the disc rotor & wheel hub that takes the strain - more so than the bolts
So although decent bolts are required, the mating surfaces need to be up to scratch, and dead flat/level or you'll end up with warped or hi/lo points on discs

And on the 7th day... Zeds were created!
EBC wil make discs to any spec with any offset, but it's not a budget option though it is obviously a good job. If you download their online catalogue there should be an order form at the back where you can spec whatever you like. You need to make sure it's all measured right though...
I had discs made by EBC for my Z1000 to enable spacing for six pots with the wire wheel, the offset is about as much as a standard Zed disc. My yokes are wider than standard too though, as the hub and offset discs were wider than the yokes would have been on the 1100 Zephyr the wheel came from as I'm pretty sure that used narrow calipers with pads only on the inside.
