Oil drain plug siezed UPDATE!

Oil sump now off and sump plug removed
God it was tight. loads of shite in bottom and on gauze filter.
New sump plug and gasket ready.
Go easy boys but cos im a novice more advice please.

What are correct torque settings for sump bolts.
Gasket that came off appears rubber. new one is normal card gasket material. When applying gasket what is best sealant to use. i assume i apply a little to both surfaces.
finally there is a slight small crack in the sump.(caused by overtightening i suspect) This has NOT gone all the way through and the sump doesnt leak. is there an easy repair. It could have been there years. shall i just leave it.

If it bothers you, I'd fill it with one of the metal 'weld/filler' types of glue.

many moons ago when I wore a hole on my generator cover, I used a whole lotta this stuf and it worked a treat for a couple of years. the hole was the size of a penny and it never leaked untill I replaced the casing.
i had that casing till a few years ago when I moved house and skipped loads of old ZED stuff......yeah... I regret that now.

You don't need any sealer with a new gasket.
I always lightly grease both sides when assembling plain gaskets (unless its a bonded type which is mostly head gaskets).
The gasket will still seal but will usually come off clean in the future and then be re-usable.

Don't use a torque wrench - use a short 10mm spanner & gently nip up

Small crack- is it a crack and not a casting mark? If it doesn't leak I would leave it and keep my eyes open for a better sump.

It's never leaked, but then again i never had the sump off, just changed filter and oil once a year, flushed it through twice when i first got it.

yes could be just a casting mark ive had another look at it.
But what ever it is if it dont leak i can live with it.
i will fit it this weekend...............................fingers crossed
