got some genuine kawasaki piston rings today, manual says fit rings with letters facing upwards, thats the way i've allways done on any engine, then it shows a diagram of all three rings with the second ring with the groove facing downwards, that means the letter on that ring faces downwards, any body got any ideas....cheers

Baz, irrespective of the position of that recess... the small letter (usually an "N"), faces upwards.
Sometime along the evolution of Z1's thru to Z1000's, that second ring recess changed position.
