I will introduce myself properly at a later date but at the moment I am hoping for some help.
I have owned my Z1a for a lot of years. It was off the road and stored for approximately 5 or 6 years due to marriage getting in the way. That is all over so I thought I would get the old girl back and running.
A friend of friend (numpty) offered to get it back to its former glory and roadworthy. To cut a long story short he basically did bugger all apart from burn out the regulator rectifier and then did a runner. Luckily I managed to get the bike back.
So I have bought a replacement regulator/ rectifier but it has different wiring to the original Newtronics one previously fitted.
I have the correct 3 phase yellow wires which are obvious, a black (earth) and 1 red wire(live) which is supposed to go to the battery. The newtronics one had 2 live wires. One of which T'd into a white wire coming off the main battery which was fused then disappears behind the starter solenoid and the other was connected into the green connector which I believe is for the ignition switch. So where do I connect the red wire on the new regulator/ rectifier. To the wire from the ignition switch or the mains one which is fused or ignore both and go direct to battery? I do have a photo but haven't worked out how to put it here yet.
I would be so grateful. I am not sure whether the old one burnt out cause it was old (black wire was the one that went) or if it something they did. I am told the bike was running when it started smoking from the Reg/Rect.
I have tried connecting to each of the aforementioned connections but it wouldn't start. Before I start looking elsewhere I wanted to check with the experts that I am doing everything correctly so far.
Looking forward to any help you guys can give.
If it helps it also has a Boyer Bransden ignition system.
Thanks again. Z
