Carburettors ? is there a plumber in the house?

My 1978 Z1000, from left to right (looking forward), carburettor 1 has no air vent pipe fitted to the carb body, carbs 2 & 4 have rubber pipes which run to a hole on the frame and carb 3 has a rubber pipe that goes to the vacuum feed on the fuel tap.

First question ? what do these air vents do?

Second question ? is it OK that they are left un-plugged?

Third question ? if I replace the fuel tap with a non-vacuum one, do I need to plug air vent 3 or leave it open like 2 & 4?

If anyone knows the answers, it would be appreciated.
:P
