Can't argue with that view but if you have a bike you plan to keep long term, the expense can be worth it and the guys that do it for a living are far quicker than any of us will ever be. Having a new loom built for you to your spec allows all the modern bits to be integrated, like combined reg/rec and modern blade fuse boards.
I have had 3 bikes done over the years by Ferrets Custom electrikery and though I swallowed hard when paying the final bill, looking back it was well worth it. My way of thinking about it is that if the new looms last another 40 years then it's worth every penny.

Never had my Z1000R done as it has never given me any problems but I paid £400 for my Kawasaki S3400 triple which included modern reg/rec and the re-fitting of Boyer as Ferret rewires them in a particular way that Boyer don't. On the other extreme I paid £800 for my Guzzi Le Mans but that was a really complex loom and the price included modern fusebox and new switchgear (he unsoldered all of the wiring in the Triumph switchgear even though it was perfect and replaced it all with the right coloured wiring to match back into the main loom).
It is a lot of money but it will seem cheap in 30 years time

I had my Z1-R done by ferret a couple of years ago, he works very long hours, and you pay for one of the best there is, well worth it in the end, and no more problems for many years to come.
