thanks.

I believe the "5L" makes it a 1975 wheel, probably a Z1B.

taken from Beezees web site.

The wheel may have had the rim changed at some time?
The rim is December 1975.

ok brill, so it looks like a z1000 hub with a z1b rim? i will check the front wheel i have and put the numbers on tomorrow, what is the best route to follow regarding re-building the wheels? should i re-chrome the rims or bin them for stainless ones?

personally i would not entertain re chroming a rim which is nearly 36 years old. from previous experience any rust on the rim no matter how bad it is it will eventually re apear

GrumpusZed, after reading your post I'm not sure if you realise the difference between the 40 hole Z1, Z1A, Z1B or Z900 and the 40 hole Z1000 rear rim.

Just to clear the air, the above rims are different, as the Z1000 has to accommodate a rear disk hub of a larger diameter on only one side. There is even a directional arrow on the rim to identify this difference.
Hence you can never spoke a Z1000 wheel for a Z1B...Z900 hub, or vice-versa.

didnt know that but ive never used the wheels so if i decide to get stainless rims i will get zed thou ones, ive checked the front wheel and its marked "TAKASAGO 1.85X19 6K 305 JAPAN" i assume this is zed thou as well?

GrumpusZed1, I think I've missed something... Where did Stainless steel rims come into the topic. You said earlier, you thought you had a Z1000 hub on a Z1b rim!
I will say again, you cannot have a Z1B rim with a z1000 hub the Z1000 hub has to have a z1000 rim. (mainly because of the spoke hole positioning).

i was either going to have the rims re-chromed or bin the rims for new ones, the rear wheel i have is for a zed thou as its a disc wheel not a drum
the numbers on the rim show its a 75 z1b rim (according to people on here) im only going on what people have told me! i wasnt aware the z1 rims dont fit a zed thou hub but if the info ive been given is correct then they do fit ? im in the dark now! :??

Cheer up Grupus, someone will sought it out... I only mentioned it because i've been caught trying to spoke a Z1000 rear rim onto a z1 rear hub,,,,, It's bloody hard as it just can't be done.
