I have rebuilt my caliper on the Z1b, but the supplied dust seal won't fit, my caliper has a little lip that the seal should fit over, but the supplied seal seems to be for a different system? :??

Kev, I only know of one type of dust seal for the Z1 and it as you describe .. "Fits over the little lip". They do look very flat when they are not installed.

I have seen the latest aftermarket calipers and they doi seem to have something different. RegardZ.

What seal / kit did you get?

We assemble a kit with genuine kawasaki parts as we've not found a source for the dust seal.

A year or so ago, there was a bozo on ebay selling a Yamaha caliper kit as a Z1 kit - but the parts were very wrong - dangerously wrong.

the groove/lip you are trying to locate the seal is only about 1-2mm deep make sure you don't use any lubricant on the seal. you are probably trying to locate too much of the seal into the groove. fit the seal to the piston first right at the bottom

On some calipers the metal lip can be carefully levered out,it is a pain but you can sometimes put the removed metal lip into the seal first then slide it over the piston and press into the caliper body....Paul J

kev,

pretty sure the answer is on page 4 of your project thread......................

powder coating !! did the guy who did it mask off the steel ring all around, including the outside "groove" where the seal needs to fit ?

I speak from experience, even the smallest coating in there stops the seal fitting in and staying put properly.

sharp screwdriver time i think ? good luck.

Kev. I bought some dust seals that are nowhere near correct.

I had to reuse the old ones. Suggest as Jeff says, use genuine.

just trying to do this myself and it is a pain in the ass to say the least

I am trying to use the old seal as it seems complete and I have levered out the small ring that presumably holds the dust seal in place.......trouble is the diameter of the seal seems bigger than the diameter of the loose ring so it won't hold it in place

I am wondering if the seal has gone baggy or are the seals like this?
