Digital speedo

Has anyone done a digital speedo conversion using original clock casing on Z1000 (no speedo drive so hall effect etc.). I have wasted a lot of money on experiments so far 
I want to keep the original face and have the reproduction dials its just the guts that i am stuck with. There are smaller diameter gauges on the market but i want or keep the original casing....any suggestions?
