Mark, I am a lover of led lights, but I bought some to replace the idiot light bulbs on my modded Zed & they were shite, the different shade of white just didn't work behind the coloured lenses.

The company I work for has invested millions of Yen trying to achieve the "pure white" LED. to get the idiot lights looking right you need to use the nearest colour e.g. red for red, blue for blue etc.
white led behind a red lens will look pink....suits you sir, suits you :D

these 2 photos are with normal filament bulbs

these 2 are with colour LED BA9S fitted...the light is not difused as filament bulbs and the brake idiot light is constantly on and just gets brighter when u pull the brake? but the colour is fine

Image

Image

these are wth white LEDs fitted... with white LEDs fitted the colours look a bit wishy washy and the neutral looks more like light blue, in the last photo the brake light is back to a filment

The brake idiot light is always on, because it relies on the resistance of the bulb, to trigger off the light. Same goes for the pilot-light, which will also be lit, if you trigger the brake-light.

Cheapest way to solve: fit a normal warning light bulb or add a resistor.

Greg

Cheers nano...where would the resistor go? and what value would it need to be? i have put a regular bulb back in that one so it works as it should

Hmm... the resistor would go in in parallel to the LED-BULB. So you could just solder one in a homegrown LED (that's what I did).

Greg

The company who supplied the LEDs gave me free a 47 Ohm resistor and a wiring diag which shows it in parralel with the bulb (Across), all works fine now, including the brake failure if anyone else is going to do the same
