Are these smoothbores?

I wasnt sure about them, i thought they might be due to the big plug where the jet is... but the bowls are not like the ones on my old A1(uk)...any idea if they were stock in the US or are they from another model?

Yes! I'm 99% sure they are.
They look just like mine :)

they are that type of carb but the float bowl assembly is from an early type z1/a/b. take a look at this link

I would say they are smoothbores.
Smoothbores have the small square recess,just above the bowl flange.

Yes! they used that same bowl for the smoothbores.

The main clue to smoothbores is the square recessed casting on the r/h side with the drilling blocked off with the ball bearing.

Look like smoothbores.Stick Y`finger in the intake side and feel around.
Compare to othe STD carbs.You can`t put Y`finger up a smoothbore!
