Hydraulic Clutch Conversion - z1100r

#1 PostAuthor: Jumbo » Thu Jul 21, 2011 10:20 pm

Has anyone converted one of the latter bikes over to a hydraulic clutch. I have already done this on my z900 and have been pleased with the result. If anyone has done this what hydraulic slave cylinder did they use.

whilst its not the most tidy example, this is how iv recently done mine...

got a spare cover, drilled/filled/hacked out the centre of the original 'lifter' hole,
chopped up a zrx1100 cover to get the s/cylinder mount and drill through to loosely bolt into position.........

extended the push rod....

hi-tech eh

had it welded by a local guy, sprayed it black and fitted it all together......

i did try just bolting the slave to the cover but the bolt holes ended up too close to the 'hole' so the mount was used to spread the load, it does push it out a tad but i can live with that :D

i used zrx11 master cylinder, slave and even the pipe although now im happy that is working ok iv got a bit of braided to fit,

as said, not the neatest but functional........and that'll do for me :)

I would use the falkano one Mike I have fitted 3 of these now with no problems. Nicely hidden behind the cover no drilling or welding. Works great with the ZRX11/12 mastercylinders

I am sure they will fit the Z1100r as the GPZ1100 and Z1000r is listed.

Hi Ian. I have a spare falkano one that I bought from you which I was keeping as my spare with the intention of fitting at some point to another bike. I have not yet pulled the cover off the z1100r yet but will do in the next few days. I am pretty sure I can get it inside maybe with a bit of modification. However the advert from falkano translated with google does say:-

The installation in the lid of the younger models Z1000J, Z1000R, LTD and GPZ 1100, B1, B2, and UT is only possible with a change of sprocket cover lid! This change, I can gladly take over for you.

Then he goes on to say that:-

My CNC machined aluminum sprocket covers for hydraulic clutch conversion can be found in another auction!

It looks like he has used a GPZ900 slave cylinder, which actually look quite a small unit.

Anyway until I remove the cover I will not know !!

To fit the Falk' unit to the J/GPZ/R style of cover, I believe you have to remove about the first 10mm of casting from inside of the cover where the Falk unit will fit on. This is what he is offering to do.

I actually came across cover of another model (GPZ750 maybe???????) which didn't have the extra casting on the inside and the Falk' unit bolted straight on!!!!

So it may be best to get a second hand unit to convert if you wish to keep your standard one untouched.

Or, buy the sprocket cover from Falk (as below) and a GPZ900 and fit those.
