Engine spares

I am very seriously thinking about lifting the lid of my Z1 1100 (shaft trike) engine which is from a 1981 A1, I guess. It is likely that the whole engine is badly worn but it sounds more or less alright to me. I hope to just replace the valve rubbers and grind in the valves to improve compression and cure smoke on start-up after standing.
Are these elderly big ends man enough to withstand an increase in compression?
Money is the problem of course, so where can I buy just the rubbers and gaskets that I need?
Perhaps genuine K products would be the best so that means Cradely Heath?
What sort of price would be an engine (shaftie) be in decent condition, if one is available?
Is there a later more easily available Kaw 1100 which would drop straight in apart from the prop shaft?
I guess that the cost of refurbishing the whole shebang would be astronomical.
Any advice would be welcomed.
Thanks
