just after a few words of wisdom if poss guys

fitted the zrx front end into the z today and, suprisingly it all just bolted together

but iv got 2 questions..

1st is that iv got a gap under the standard zrx dust cover - the one thats sposed to shield the top bearing, is it just a case of making something suitable out of an old aerosol can top ?? or is that a total bodge

2nd thing is the top yoke comes down onto the steering lock lug on the frame....... i was going to just chop the lug off, not worried about using it as its usually locked if i leave it anywhere - is that ok or another bodge ?????

last thing, chain aligment....
its quite a bit off (as expected) but having a crude measure i think an offset zzr1100c sprocket would do the job - or ?????

The less you can cut off the frame the better if you can modify the yoke - it would be better than cutting the lug off the frame in case you ever fall on hard times and have to sell it to a collector who wants to restore it....

What's the offset on the ZZR sprocket?

i dont think theres anything i could do to the yoke to alter the problem without having to re-locate the ignition switch...

What clocks you using?

That 24mm measurement includes the thickness of the sprocket most quote how much the face is offset.

Did you see the post about the gearing before the site went down on Friday?

im now going to use the standard clocks as the bolted straight onto the rex yoke and fit snug up against the ignition switch,

i measured 24 (ish) mm out from the back of the sprocket and from what i could see it looked ok....................but it was getting dark so ill re-look again tomorrow,

The zzr 1100c is the most offset 530 sprocket you can buy standard
above that needs to be a custom buy from Debben or the like

Could you as i see it fettle make wider the stops to allow the yoke to sit deeper...

i think ill see if i can beg/borrow an old zzr sprocket of someone and try it before i buy a new un, it'll at least give me a better idea of what offset i'll need,

i was just going to trim the rear part of the yoke but the ignition switch is the same depth as those lugs so i wouldnt be any further forward

i can see the grinder getting some action tomorrow

Chris, I had an alloy steering yoke made so I cant help you with that area, but I used a ZX10 offset sprocket with a washer behind it and the chain lines up spot on.
To fit the swinging arm I used the Z1000 bolt and had a spacer made up so that it would fit inside the ZRX swinging arm tube, this meant I could still use the ZRX bearings. I found that the swinging arm did fit but ideally you had to remove the battery box as it slipped in easier if you went from the top (that sounds naughty). I have a note book with dimensions in for various things so I will have look.
I am away until wednesday, so I will let you know then.

hi mate u using a 530 chain? if so u want a gsxr750 front sprocket n if u take about 8mm off rear sprocket carrier .. chain will be in line .. steve

Really interesting this thread as i'm about to do a 1200 zrx swingarn conversion on mine, i had the z bushes machined out and 20mm bushes put in so i could use the zrx spindle. i used the z stem in the zrx yoke which seems to have worked a treat and my igniton fits straight on to the top yoke. i'm a long way off chain alingnment yet so can't really be of any help there.

Mine is similar and have witness marks on the tyre where it rubs..
But i have noticed my chain is bent...longitudinally..
May explain the tingly ass i had when driving it back from Aberdeen at up to 150/160

But also i may add,members have suggested i check for wobble factor in wheel,sprocket etc..which i will be doing..

Since this is a or seems to be a common conversion then succesful members with no bother can also comment as to a safe clearance

this is the only time you can say to your wife, "honey i need to buy a laser!"
