engine transplant

#1 PostAuthor: jimmock » Tue Feb 23, 2010 9:48 pm

I'm going to modify my Z250 Scorpion, 1980 W reg.

Can any one tell me if an engine out of a Z1000 will fit and if so what other mods will I need to do?? I'm hoping to fit a brand new genuine Kawasaki 4 in to 4 exhaust system to it as well ?

Cheers guyz.

You would be better fitting the engine from a 900 as it's smaller and this would help in fitting the 4 pipes :baby :baby

The 900 engine is 100 smaller than the 1000 engine and is also closer to the 250 that was in the bike to start with . Hope this helps . :baby :baby

I will measure everything up tomorrow as I have an old 73 900 too.

I might use this engine for the Scorpion and put the 1000 motor into the 73.

Even though it is 100cc smaller it should still be an improvement over the original 250 motor.

"All or nothing"
I put a Z1300 engine in a Kr1s,only special tools needed were tyre levers and an old spoon.

Would you like a Vance and Hines sidewinder exhaust to go with this modification.
Though you will have lose the kick start, fit rear sets, and possible modify the brake lever as well. Depends on what look you are hoping for.

You will need to brace your frame, I have a pair of braces my grandad used to wear, yours for a tenner. :-)

Jimmock - I don't think it'll work, coz the Scorpion has sidepanels which are only rated for up to 249cc :??

You could fit the engine in upsidedown then it'd only be a 0001 cc (or 006) which will also qualify for cheaper tax & insurance
And on the 7th day... Zeds were created!

Hi Guyz thanx for all the info, help, advice and support.

I'd certainly be interested in the rear sets Adrian.

I'm still hoping to "modify" the 4 into 4 to fit the Scorpion frame, so I'm not really interested in the side winder.

I'm intrigued and interested in this upside down engine idea. I have an early CB750 motor in the workshop, I could use the scavanger pump and dry sump system to enable the upside down idea to work.

I'm going to make a really nice pair of side panels out of chequred aluminium plate.

I'm open to any more suggestions or comments guyz.

I've seen a few interesting kawa 2 strokes recently, grafting cases together to make kh500 v6 and inline 4 666cc etc. Now why don't you couple two Z900 together to make a V8 1800 that has exhausts that go 1 into 4 (instead of 4 into 1). Then you could have 32 exhausts, think of the noise it would make and you could put it in CMM magazine.
