Left Hand Handlebar Switch Calling All Sparkys

Hi, I was swapping over the headlamp dimmer switch on my Z650. I bought a spare switch assy of eBay to use. The swap went fine everything identical. While working with the 2 switches I noticed the pass /horn toggle on mine was shorter ( a piece had broken off neatly). Great I thought, I will swap that to.
When apart I found the 2 toggles different. Tricky to swap at that end, cause the wiring there is different and has a wire going to the hi/lo switch.

Downstairs at the end that meets the main harness there are 9 wires on both assys, mine has 3 wires loose and a 6 pin block, the eBay one has 9 seperate wires factory terminals.

My question is will the 6 pin block be able to be soldered onto the eBay loom? The colours of the wires seem to be all the same. Pictures here.

The loom you bought originally had the wires passing through the bars, and are a little longer than your one.

I suspect the trigger for the pass (which US bikes don`t have) is just an earth connection. The switch block earths against the bars and completes a circuit to activate the main beam.

Before you chop anything make sure the cables are doing their correct job as I recall I had difficulty when doing mine. I think there are 3 wires to the rocker on UK and only 2 on US switches.

Wiring diagrams needed. The Haynes book of lies is good in this respect as it has both models shown.

Thanks Chris, I have ordered some female connectors to solder on, unpicking the old ones took ages to avoid damaging the 6 pin housing. Looked at many wiring diagrams, all the ones with horn/pass seem to have the same colour 9 wires, so hopefully its just the switch assy that differs internally. Jim
