I have run a earth wire from battery to the frame, My question is would it be a good idea to run one to the engine as well ? as it prob won't be earthed as engine is painted and the frame is powder coated, or does the engine not need earthing? Building them and making bits is not a prob to me but wiring is a different story

there is normally an earth from the right side of the engine (at the back just above the kickstart) that goes to the battery - big thick wire.......

You should have a return earth from the engine directly to the battery of an equal or bigger size than the starter cable. I use 16 mm2 welding cable, it's very flexible and rubber/silicone covered so it is not affected by heat.

as Rich says - you WILL need one. most car part shops will stock them.
