Z1R Wiring

#1 PostAuthor: ruffle » Tue Dec 22, 2009 5:43 pm

Does the '78 Z1R normally have a mass of single wire connections in the middle of the wiring loom? There's 16 of the little sods not including the coil connections.

I've had a look at the circuit diagram and it doesn't seem to me that there should be that many. Anyone know if this is normal or has someone been doing some knitting on mine.

Ta for the confirmation.

Now I'll just have to be ultra careful when taking it apart as there does seem to be a lot of same coloured wires flying around in there....

....or perhaps they're not all meant to be mucky brown? :??

no bullit conectors under tank as tank will rub and cause bad conections + coil wires come on right of the frame not left. its been messed with my man :D :D

Argh... now I'm confused (so situation normal).

Those single bullet connectors do look in the main to be 'of a genuine type' and the male connectors have factory-ish black heatshrink over the ends (although there's been some sculduggery involving insulting tape replacing missing silicony type covers but that's not surprising).

Some more cleaning reveals that the loom has a label '26001 1043 D' and checking the parts listing it should be a 26001-1038.

Hmm... wonder what a 26001-1043 is off. Anyone know?

hello Ruffle

So your starting some work on the bike you got from me, good stuff!

When I got the bike there was a non functioning alarm fitted which I disconected so that might explain some of the tape, and I noted that some of the plastic sheafing had been trimed back exposing some of the wiring. But everthing was found to be working

According to my manual "26001-1043 = wiring harness main" would be correct for a UK Bike
A 1038 would seem to be correct for a USA bike so maybe your getting your info from kawasaki.com!
Now where did I leave my Keys!

Aha! I can see that mass of single bullets on the RHS of your second photo. So it merely looks like the routing of the cables is awry on mine.

Ta v.muchly for the photos - they'll help me put it back as Kawasaki intended.

Indeed. The current plan is to get the frame and associated bitties off to Triple-S, sort out a few of the odds'n'sods but leave the motor intact as she sounds sweet.

Doh

Just for the record. I bought this bike with my eyes open from bedlow1 as a non-restored 30+year old bike. I wasn't expecting it to be perfect and bedlow1 was open and honest about the, minor, failings.

I'm going to enjoy getting her into the state that I want; nice but not so nice that I'm unwilling to ride her and any problems or issues I encounter are not a reflection on bedlow1.
