Hi from windy Western Australia,
Anyone know the set up with collets on Harris 4-1 pipe. Early 80's style. The pipe is stamped Z1000,mines a Z1a.....collets from 900 too small.Does it require Z1000 collets or Harris ones?
Thanks Pete

Harris system does not have collets, they have their own clamps, are you sure you have the right headers,a photo may help with identifying what you have. :)

I have a Harris on my 900A4. It is stamped Z1000. The only difference I could see was the size of the holes on the clamps ie 8mm instead of 6mm. I just used a repair washer before I put the 6mm nuts on.

What's early? I have a Z1000 Harris from about '83 or '84 and it has the non collet set-up same as the rest.

I am sure that i used collets with a harris on 900 & 1000 heads In fact i did coz I lost a pair once and went to martin smiths house en route to wherever and pinched a pair.

My last Z1000 had a harris and I have two in the garage now and none of them use split collets, they all have a double skin at the entry to the head. Of the two I have now one has the double skin fixed and on the other the double skin will rotate and pushes up against a slightly flared end, the earlier of the two has the fixed skin.
