Think they changed for the Z1A Steve, all the 73's should have the small badge.Hutcy can sort the tanks out that have the large badge to take the small badge and you wouldn't know the difference..

all z1's had small, they changed to bigger on the z1a, no crossover point on the z1.

July / Aug was cut off point.
For anyone interested, the 73 Z2 was made until Nov 73 whilst the Z1A was being made. Kawasaki used the new longer pitched badge tank for the Z2 but still sprayed them in Z1 orange / brown, so it is possible to find some long pitch orange / brown tanks out there.

Not sure where you got that from Mick, it's more like 6 Z1 for every Z2

I hope the link works. It is a Yahoo Japan auction for a Z1 NOS tank in the Jaffa colours...it takes the larger badges. It is not one of the currently available replacements that is a mix of Z900 and Z1.

Failed to sell at £1500.

Bit of a funny one as it is wrong for all Z1's but petty rare nonetheless.

What are you talking about? The auction started yesterday and has 6 days to run.

Factory tank that was made in the 70's is not wrong for all Z1's.

Davy it is probably worth closer to $1800 USD mark, at that start price it may not sell. I have seen short pitch tanks in their original box from the 70's sell for less than this guys start price. Who knows? People laughed at my eBay auctions when I put $999 USD start prices on seats that I buy over the counter here....they laughed, but funnily enough the abusive emails from idiots on eBay stopped after one of my seats fetched $1575 USD.
Bugger, I only sold 5 before the factory stopped making them recently....glad I kept one or myself. :D
