how the hell do you fit a new one??? seems too tight

They are tight, ensure you have got all of the old seal out.

Try heating up the housing with a hair drier and apply a small amount of oil on the outer face of the new seal. Not sure if this is correct but it worked a treat for me when I replaced my fork seals. Also make sure you haven't damaged the housing when you removed the old seal. Good luck

think i may have found the reason its so tight, looking around for a complete unit and found this

which is what was fitted to the bike, and i bought a new seal from zpower which i presume is to fit this
