z1000j Front Disk Spacing?

#1 PostAuthor: v70z650 » Fri Dec 11, 2009 9:03 am

Hi Folks

Can anyone tell me the spacing (back-to-back, centres or face-to-face) for z1000j front disks.

I am in the process of fitting a GPz750 wheel into standard z650 forks. The z1000j (and similar models) appear to be an intermediate step (having the later style wheel hub with 7 bolt disk but older style forks - whereas the GPz had very different forks). I have already established that a z1000j spindle with adapt to the smaller spindle diameter of the GPz wheel but now have the problem of getting the brake caliper mounts sorted.

Grateful for any help.

Thanks

Measurements taken from the front wheel of a J1 with geep 900 disks.

Outer surface of disk is 116 mm
Inner surface of disk is 106 mm

These are 5mm disks and the measurements are taken on the working surface of the disc not from the rebate cut into the hub for the disks to mount on.

If you need any other dimensions let me know.

Thanks AL

That's the same as the GPz750 disks (within 1mm). So I'm guessing that I can use the z1000 calipers or at least the hangers.

If you have a spare minute you could you let me know the fork centres - just as a final check?

Many thanks again

Forks, yolks, wheel and the rest is out of the bike just now.

The measurement between the yolks, plus twice the radius of the stantions is

147mm + 19mm + 19mm (38mm stantions) gives 185mm centres.

Hope this makes sense.

As before this is a Z1000 J1 (1981) and all parts, apart from discs are standard.

Many thanks AL

Fork centres are the same as the z650, which means that I should be able to use z1000j brake calipers and hangers to match up with the GPz wheel in the z650 forks - next stop ebay.
