Spokes

#1 PostAuthor: mikey » Fri Dec 11, 2009 6:46 am

Cleaning me Z the other day and the spokes and hubs on my wheels
let it down a touch, when time and money allows will have them rebuilt etc.
But in the meantime how often should you be checking them and what do you look for apart from any obvious broken spokes or am i worrying over nothing.

Mikey,
Funny enough i was having a quick look on the web about this last night, seems they are an overlooked item which can need the occasional tweak.By giving them all a tap you should hear if any are loose and need adjustment but the word is go easy with the tightening as you could end up with square wheels!! :D

Be really carefull if you do need to tighten them, cos the spoke only needs to go through a little bit to puncture the inner tube.

I used to check all bolts on the bike each month, check and tighten the chain and check the spokes, just by tapping with a spanner, loose ones will sound different and by grabbing them and giving a quick wiggle.

Got Lesters on now, so no worries
