Paul. not an easy job to convert Z1 series single fuse to the three fuse as used in the later models.
The difficulty is in getting the headlight wiring down to the rear. I would suggest using a Z900/Z1000 harness. Even so, I have noticed nearly all Z900 fuse boxes have at some stage suffer from overheating. So, you would have to substitute the fuse box to a blade type.
There is another way and that is, using the Z1 series harness and having the headlight fuse mounted separately, under the tank. You would also nead to conjure up a separate fuse for the rear tail-light

Thanks G1 will probably use The Z1 harness then, with individual in line fuses.what would you recomend individually fusing apart from head and tail lamps? Thanks Paul J..

Paul, you really only need 3 fuses.... Ignition (20 amp) main lead from positive terminal after solenoid, Head-lights (10 amp)... wire to h/l switch and tail -lamp (10 amp).
So, the h/l would be a single fuse holder under tank.
the tail-lamp and ignition would be a double fuse holder at control-panel behind side-cover.
Try and buy a blade fuse holder as small as possible. Its not easy to find a spot to secure it. You may consider getting a four fuse holder for the control-panel to carry a couple of spares, if space permits.
As BShaw says, check out the fuse holders on the item at Z-power.
