Just got my 75 Z1B fired up after setting for a year or so of setting .
Stored inside . Anyway on my check ride while coasting to a stop at
about 20 mph to zero . I was hearing a buszing sound finally narrowed
it down to the speedometer . The needle is steady , but if you reach up
an grab hold of the gauge you can feel it an make the sound change
by putting pressure on it . I read somewhere there is some type of
dampning device inside the gauge to keep the needle steady . Is there a
possibilty this is a pre warning its on its way out . Anybody out there
incountered this strange sound ?

You may have to undo it and put some rubber washers, or pads to reduce the 'buzzing' noise. My clocks do it sometimes too old Zeds tend to produce a few high pitch vibes

OK, this might be totally irrelevant but I'll say it anyway.
After years of restoring my H2, I finally finished it last season. When I started riding it, I heard funny noises from the speedo like clicking and swoshing and what have you. After a while the speedo stopped working and I had to have a look at it. Turned out that I had forgotten to grease up the speedo gear at the front hub, and it was totally worn out. That's what happens when you use years on a resto. I probably just hooked everything up to get it on it's wheels and forgot the grease when it was time to ride.

Oh, the Z1 use the same front hub as the H2.
