Am I the only one that suffers from this ?
Has anyone got any suggestions on what will keep the worm screw lubricated for more than a couple of months ?

I've only ever used regular AP3 grease and never had any probs.

Are you sure you have the Steel ball in place? If you meant its creaky :?

If you've still got the nylon one replace it with the later ballbearing one.

Rich, do you mean the one from a Mk11 engine?
TheBogieMan, where is it creaking mate :?:
At the lever or down the business end (engine).
If at the lever try a bit of oil. Best to oil the cable regularly anyway, especially as its prone to road sh*te at the bottom end.
Check mthe cables not heat damaged where its close to the exhaust, halfway down!

It's creaking in the nylon bit, tried high melt grease, silicon grease and chain lube on it so far over the years but still it comes back after a while.

Rich if I replace it with the late type my bike will no longer be concours :lool

Bogie man as you ride your bike then you have already invalidated the Concours status! Sorry but you are gonna have to fit the parts that work and live with the fact that you have just wiped out 50% of the bikes value, Bummer - not!

From engine number 025468~

A2, as Pigford says A3 and A4 (Mk2)

Some Js and Gpzs also had them but they also had the three ball ramp style which will not fit.

I have emailed you a parts diagram so you know what you're looking for.

Hi,
this might seem like a stupid question but are you sure your lifter is a worm?

I have a J which has a ball and ramp system whose adjustment mechanism is 100% the reverse to the worm and most manuals don't mention it. The creaking as you described happened on my J but worse, on a number of occasions the clutch jammed in declutch position as the lever over rotated.

being a thicko I diligently followed the Clymer manual adjustment process, only when I took the mechanism apart and saw how it worked did i realise the manual only covered the worm system. The ball and ramp system is "unscrew until resistance and then clockwise 1/4 turn"

Thanks for the pics Rich, will now have to start trawling places to get one now, I was starting to think I'd have to get a bit machined up in PTFE

As for the dung Davey.....you aint wrong there, tis spreading season again, I'm currently riding around with a magic tree inside my lid :(
